Reconstruction:
First a Body, Then a Life
The compelling story of one woman’s journey to discover joy. Contrary to her initial beliefs, it was not about public success and accomplishment, but following her secret dreams to live an authentic life.
This memoir traces the struggle to recover after a devastating two-month stay in intensive care in a medically-induced coma. It recounts her journey back, overcoming a suicidal depression and subsequently developing her own creative process. She re-enters public life through a number of successful projects culminating in a scooter tour across the midwest. While this would signal the happy ending of a typical recovery tale, this story takes us to the next stage, to another kind of happy ending: private acceptance of one’s true self, and taking that private, authentic self public.
